چکیده

This paper is the second in a series that details the thermodynamically constrained averaging theory (TCAT) approach for modeling flow and transport phenomena in porous medium systems. In this work, we provide the mathematical foundation upon which the theory is based. Elements of this foundation include definitions of mathematical properties of the systems of concern, previously available theorems needed to formulate models, and several theorems and corollaries, introduced and proven here. These tools are of use in producing complete, closed-form TCAT models for singleand multiple-fluid-phase porous medium systems. Future work in this series will rely and build upon the foundation laid in this work to detail the development of sets of closed models. 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Thermodynamically Constrained Averaging Theory Approach for Modeling Flow and Transport Phenomena in Porous Medium Systems: 5. Single-Fluid-Phase Transport.

This work is the fifth in a series of papers on the thermodynamically constrained averaging theory (TCAT) approach for modeling flow and transport phenomena in multiscale porous medium systems. The general TCAT framework and the mathematical foundation presented in previous works are used to develop models that describe species transport and single-fluid-phase flow through a porous medium syste...

Thermodynamically constrained averaging theory approach for modeling flow and transport phenomena in porous medium systems: 1. Motivation and overview

We give several examples of weaknesses in classical, empirically derived models of transport phenomena in porous medium systems. We also place recent attempts to develop improved multiscale porous medium models using averaging theory in context and note deficiencies in these approaches. These deficiencies are found to arise in part from the manner in which thermodynamics is introduced into a co...

Multiple Solutions for Slip Effects on Dissipative Magneto-Nanofluid Transport Phenomena in Porous Media: Stability Analysis

In the present paper, a numerical investigation of transport phenomena is considered in electrically-conducting nanofluid flow within a porous bed utilizing Buongiorno’s transport model and Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg fourth-fifth order method. Induced flow by non-isothermal stretching/shrinking sheet along with magnetic field impact, dissipation effect, and slip conditions at the surface are...

Analysis of Two-fluid-phase Porous Medium Systems Using Microscale Experiments and Lattice Boltzmann Modeling

Amanda L. Dye: Analysis of Two-Fluid-Phase Porous Medium Systems Using Microscale Experiments and Lattice Boltzmann Modeling (Under the direction of Cass T. Miller) Modeling two-fluid-phase flow in porous medium systems requires the specification of closure relations to produce a solvable system. The thermodynamically constrained averaging theory (TCAT) has been used to formulate a closed model...

Mathematical Models of Dusty Gas Flow through Porous Media

This work reports on the recent advances in the continuum approach to dusty gas flow modeling through isotropic porous structures. This approach has received considerable attention over the last half century due to the need to develop dusty gas flow models capable of describing natural and industrial transport phenomena, including subsurface transport of dissolved or suspended particulates, des...
